Shovi Websites "Demo Lab"

The Demo Lab is a collection of function, features and examples we have built over the years for our clients. When we get a request from one of our clients for a project that they aren't too familiar with, such as their first email newsletter or a Flash ad banner, there are several rounds of questions on how these requests will benefit their company, what limitations they may need to overcome, etc.

Even when working with a new client on a website design, there are considerations such as navigation placement or function that can play a big part in the success of the project. In an effort to streamline that "learning curve" we developed this Demo Lab to show off good examples of layouts, menus, photo galleries, etc. that our clients can feel comfortable having us use on their own projects.

We are currently building out this section, but in the meantime, here are links to some of our favorite "bells & whistles" that we've installed on other websites:

NOTES:

  1. This photo gallery uses the Lightwindow script and Prototype/Scriptaculous JavaScript libraries. The thumbails are automatically created by re-rendering the full-size photos in real time, which saves storage space and improves the turnaround of adding new photos.
  2. This photo gallery uses "slider.js" from Dynamic Drive; the photos and their thumbnails are pulled into a gallery by looking up the available photos in a directory, instead of saving the file paths into a database.
  3. These photo galleries are more basic in their behind-the-scenes technology, but illustrate how galleries and thumbnails can be created on the fly.
  4. This photo gallery is the first installment of a custom module we've built for our Website Content Manager application. The table of thumbnails can be adjusted to show as many thumbnails per row, and the photos are uploaded into a database. The script used here is called Lightbox which uses the jQuery library.
